- 9-10 am ... went over questions 19-33 including binary
- 10:15-11:15 ... overview of wikis including assignment on the Summercore wiki with the 33 questions
- 11:15-12 ... teams of 2 work on some of the 33 questions adding graphics and video to the Summercore wiki
- 12-12:30 ... teams of 4 discuss "best practices for a wiki
Best Practices with blogs and wikis 1) international wikis 2) committee work-easier than e-mails 3) wikis might be better than blogs and journals (peer editing) 4) using a wiki for projects(can add due dates)-applies to group, in class, and research projects 5) in class assignments-you can see responses right away 6) creating lessons plans 7) using wiki as a classroom newsletter 8) parent education site 9) set up groups so there aren't too many responses 10) use it as an activity for "centers" 11) use as homework options 12) sharing resources to other teachers 13) saving meeting times (do prep. for meetings on a wiki)

1. Changing the width of the column -- pound signs will appear when information isnÕt shown -- "autofit"-double click and the column will become the appropriate size for the information -- you can also click and drag -- you can make the row deeper and make the text "wrap"(go to the tool bar, format, cell, alignment, wrap text) -- bottom right of cells are magical! (black cross) i. Write one word and they will multiply into the cells that are highlighted ii. Words that the application recognize (Months, days, and numbers) will automatically appear -- Never forget format cells (all options are located there) -- You can change the color and size of text and border size 2. Formulas Ð all formulas begin with an equal sign -- Dollar sign means constant (donÕt change it) -- Colon means through -- Tables must be ascending -- =rand() Ð dice roll "ugly decimal" -- =int(6*rand()) - random(RAND) Dice roll (6) -- =Average (b2:d2) -average -- =(b2*.2)+(c2*.3)+(d2*.5) Ð Weighted averages -- =f2 *1.4 Ð curve -- =f2*g1 Ð curve (you cannot drag the right bottom corner) -- =Lookup (G2,$G$9:$G$14) -- Countif Ð "counts the number of cells within a range that meet the given conditions" -- =IF(A62=3,1,0) - -- =IF(B95<65,"fail","ok") 3. - PPA ... Please Practice Attribution (not only is it the honest thing to do, but it is part of role modelling for your students ... in sports, it is controversial whether or not athletes like Charles Barkley should see themselves as role models ... in education, however, there is no controversy)
- TIP ... Teamwork is Paramount (take turns, lean on each other, allow others to lean on you)
- DSYW ... Don't Spin Your Wheels (ask for help)
- PNP ... Process Not Product (we don't want people to just come to your booth, we want them to learn some skills)
- POW ... Post on Web (at least one paragraph on the Summercore Wiki page, you are welcome to add links and more, but must post at least one paragraph describing what people will see when they come to your booth and what SPECIFIC SKILLS you will show them when they come to your booth

Advice to Florida marathoners from some of the Milwaukee marathoners in June
- "Remember to stay in the moment and don't worry if you don't understand something right away. Your instructors will help you unconditionally, and you will leave Summercore with a thorough understanding of everything you want to learn."
- "Don't spin your wheels. Take a deep breath and ask for help. Don't fight the overwhelming feeling of it all; it comes with the territory."
- "Don't get so frustrated that you shut down. It is fun once to take the time to relax and enjoy yourself!"
- "Keep an open mind and realize early on......you will not master any one software. Learn enough to teach the basics and allow the learner to use their imaginations. :-)"
