Assignments Day by Day
Monday, Day 1
- Monday 8-9: Intros and start on the 33 questions, hopefully 1-10 before the first break
- After break at one hour, the second 10 questions out of 33, demonstrating some examples of file sizes on the screen and firmly going over protocols for memory stick on Mac and PC
- After 9:15 break, we start on Webquests .. A1 ("assignment #1") is to create a Microsoft Word document called A1LynneSteve.doc (using your name and your partner's name) and to send to sb@teachingcompany.com with 3-5 Webquests that you found interesting and one sentence of description ... one method is to go to Webquest.org and click on find webquests ... you can type in what you are looking for or scroll down to curriculum grade level matrix ... alternatively you can go to plain old google ... please copy your A1 file to your memory sticks (you AND your partner) ... A1 was turned in between 10:16 AM and 10:34 AM with two partners sending one e-mail
- A2 will be an Excel spreadsheet of the form A2LynneSteve.xls in which you put the answers for the 33 questions ... send via e-mail and also put onto both memory sticks ... A2 was turned in between 11:55 and 12:12
- A3, A4 and A5 dealt with Microsoft Word challenges from 1:30-3:30 in the main room using the 3 WP challenges on the bottom right of www.summercore.com ... everyone stayed in the main room
- A6 dealt with RSS feeds ... you can find the RSS feeds on a topic (e.g. Paris Hilton)
... to find RSS feeds,
you look for words like XML or RSS ... example on Boston.Com if you scroll to the bottom,
it says RSS feeds
... and now you see all the feeds that you can get ... for example, check out

for assignment A6, we wish you to pick a topic that you are truly interested in and find 3 to 5 interesting RSS feeds ... we have created 10 accounts with login of SUMMERCORE3@teachingcompany.com and password of SUMMERCORETHREE ... using your assigned number from 1 to 10 ... your partner will be the

at the end of the session please write ONE e-mail to SB@teachingcompany.com with subject of A6 in which you summarize what you accomplished

- last assignment of marathon monday was A7 and involved creating a graphic sign for SUMMERFEST which begins on Thursday ... the pictures are now posted on www.summercore.com/contest and will be judged by our Boston Home friends we hope ... we will then use a free PC ONLY program called Photo Story 3 ("click here to download") to create a musical slideshow ... note that this program requires Windows Media Player which does not run under Windows 2000 ("yuck") ... A7 was turned in with a partner between 4:55 and 5:06
Tuesday, Day 2
- roundtable discussion from 8-9 involved going round the circle with topics from chapters 6 an 16
- from 9:15 to 12:15 we split into two groups ... JV with Steve went over Mac/PC basics in the small tech room and then learned the basics of Inspiration hands on ... we then came into the big room from 11:15-12:15 and learned to use the smartboard hands on ... meanwhile Lynne started the Varsity on Smartbaord tricks at 9:15 ... after an hour so switched to Varsity Spreadsheets showing how to link to YouTube videos along with many other skills ... assignment A8 involved Inspiration
- lunch hour was 12:15-1:15
- from 1:15-2:15 pm, we did a brief show and tell at the big screen where each Varsity person demonstrated at the Smartboard the Inspiration file that he or she had created and then each JV person demonstrated the pages of the Smartboard lesson he or she had made before lunch ... we then went over the remaining questions out of the 33 so that we were finally done with the content of all 33
- from 2:30 to 4:30, we split into JV Spreadsheets (main room, Lynne) and Varsity Spreadsheets (small tech room, Steve) ... assignment A9 involved Spreadsheets
- At 4:30, we came together to highlight some cool Web sites or Web procedures ... www.mobile17.com ... how to download PowerPoints using google's ability to isolate and find PPT files ... also www.slingbox.com for next time
- HW for Wednesday was to highlight any ONE chapter other than chapter 11 or 6 or 16 ... those studying for the 33 questions were exempt from the HW

As always everyone gets a A for all their efforts. It's hard to judge something not possible to do yourself. Today it's about 97 degrees here in Boston. Warmer than the map showed for Miami.
