Assignment A1 dealt with finding good Webquests
STEP by STEP
--the Bernie Dodge Web site has a SCOPE and SEQUENCE for Webquests www.edublogs.org
--you can also find good Webquests by typing in something like "Perfect Numbers Webquests" into Google without the quotes
--not all webquests are good, but they are created for teachers by teachers and freely usable
--you can create your own Webquest by downloading a template from the Bernie Dodge site
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- http://outreach.rice.edu/~dgabby/science/simp_mach/ ... from cornellie and haady ...
Excellent layout. This webquest gives all the background to jog students'
memory (e.g. visuals of simple machines) on the subject, but then takes it
a step further with a fun Rube Goldberg activity. Includes rubrics for
assessment and extra credit assignment.
- http://eprentice.sdsu.edu/S04X/lbeck/wq/index.htm ... from cornellie and haady ...
A good first stab at an interesting topic - the universality of comedy and
parallels between current sitcom and sketch comedy with Shakespeare. Seems
like a fun activity, with excellent potential.
- http://oncampus.richmond.edu/academics/education/projects/webunits/math/baseball.html ... from
cornellie and haady ...
Appeals to all the kids, especially sports fans. Emphasizes basic math
operations. Also, because it's a brief activity, it can be used as an
introduction.
- http://216.101.58.17/ms/lnelson/Shopping%20Webquest/2Shopping%20Intro.htm ... from
Angelina and Eric
...
This is a good website for teaching kids how to utilize percentage in a real world situation.

...
This webquest has a good interactive program for visualizing geologic time and the relationship of biological eons.

- http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/schauvin/classificationwebquest2.htm ... John & Mary Beth ...
This is a 6th grade life science webquest that teaches students about classification of living things. It's good because it has worksheets - it seems a little long, maybe could be a good parallel assignment to a unit on classification.
- http://lakelandschools.org/Edtech/Machines/Machines.htm#Task ... John & Mary Beth ...
This is a 4th grade science webquest on simple machines. It has good links, a well-defined task, and seems age-appropriate.
- http://olc.spsd.sk.ca/DE/webquests/dino/dinowq.htm#Introduction ... John & Mary Beth ...
This is a second grade dinosaur webquest. We found it interesting because? all the links work, it has a specific task, some interactive features, and you can pair students together.
... from Sandra ... This is a 9 -12 webquest on the Tour de France. Students are the reporters who have to gather news information and photos and make a PowerPoint presentation. This would be good for a French class and do the whole thing in French.
-
http://www.childrensmuseum.org/dinosphere/webquests/whoownsbones/index.htm# ... from Sandra ...
This is a 6 - 8 webquest on paleontology. It seems more age appropriate for a
6th grade science class.

Ancient Egyptian Journey - students will work in groups of three to
find out information on a given topic about Ancient Egypt. The ending
product is a papyrus pamphlet that includes information and pictures
about their topic. I liked the topics that the students will study;
together the students will develop a solid undertanding of Ancient
Egypt. An extensive number of links are listed and they appear to
point to credible sources.
- http://www.geocities.com/kennedyjaslcms/CreatingaWebQuest.htm ... from Ilona and Beth ...
The invention of the Internet has changed nearly every aspect of our
daily lives. Everyday many of us communicate to family and friends via
email and instant messaging. Some people choose to go online to buy
items ranging from automobiles to weekly groceries. Many are also
taking advantage of the educational opportunities available on the
World Wide Web. Once such educational tool that is exploding onto the
classroom scene is the use of WebQuests.
- http://questgarden.com/45/73/2/070129221123/index.htm ... from Ilona and Beth ...
This WebQuest develops a working knowledge of the many roles required
to produce a television newscast. The learner will identify key job
descriptions and their respective roles and responsibilities.
Assignment A2 dealt with blogs we made from edublogs.org
STEP by STEP
--Prior to Summercore, we had made teacher accounts at www.edublogs.org
--anyone can signup free and get his/her own blog at this Web site
--it is best to use FireFox on the Mac as the Web browser (not Safari); Internet Explorer is fine
--one feature of EDUBLOG involves inserting a YouTube video ... that involved the yellow A
--another feature of EDUBLOG involved adding a graphing ... that involved the GREEN
--once we published our blog, the URL was of the form http://SCORE33.EDUBLOGS.ORG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Assignment A3 involved drawing a picture using PAINT on the PC or Appleworks on the Mac
STEP by STEP
There are many painting programs on the Mac or the PC
The PC users in our group used PAINT which was found under PROGRAMS then within ACCESSORIES ... it is standard on all WINDOWS computers
The MAC users in our group used Appleworks Painting which used to be standard on all Macs but is now a discontinued program
Each group used MAGNIFY to do fine editing and was directed to save as a JPG when done
The file of the form A3LynneSteve.jpg was then uploaded to each team's BLOG on edublog
We then proceeded to move the file to our memory sticks, remembering that "it is easy to stick the memory stick into the USB port" but that
a special step must be taken before removing it
on the Mac, the special step is to drag the memory stick to the trash (which changes to the EJECT
icon) so that it is no longer on the screen
on the PC, the special step is to go into the TASK BAR at the bottom right and choose
"Safely Remove" usually a green ICON
