League/Schedule
Portsmouth Abbey basketball competes in the Southeast New England Independent
School League (SENE), versus Moses Brown, Wheeler, Providence Country Day
School, St. Thomas More, and Hyde. Non-Conference opponents include St.
George's School, Pomfret, Beaver Country Day, Kimball Union Academy, and other
historic institutions throughout New England. The team plays its home
games in front of passionate fans in a "Hoosiers" style gym on campus.
The Portsmouth Abbey varsity program travels to Concord, MA to play in the
competitive Middlesex Christmas tournament in December. Over the summer
vacation, both participants and coaches attend numerous camps to strengthen and
hone their basketball knowledge and skills. This past season, the Ravens brought
home the SENE Championship title.
Coaching Philosophy
The Portsmouth Abbey Basketball program believes in providing a challenging and
educational experience both on and off the court. Basketball players are
expected to strive to reach their very best academically, socially, and
athletically. The coaching staff believes in a smart, aggressive brand of
basketball that honors the game with strong defense and a quick-paced offense.
Practices emphasize working together to win as a team with respect for the
opponent, officials, fans, and the game.
