Bill Shelton, the kindergarten teacher, and I did every exercise at the JV level except the last one because we could not find the applications menu and the calculator.
We learned some new stuff like the triple click. Is this written in the red book, because I will forget the new stuff I learned before school starts?

My partner was Lucy Yeager and, unfortunately, we quickly separated because she wanted to use a mouse and I prefer to use my touchpad. However, we continued to work in close proximity on the Appleworks for MAC exercises until... we could no longer take the Appleworks. We both decided to divorce: she went home to a PC to work on the Word exercises and I stayed on my MAC, but switched to Word. We were just happier working on our more familiar programs and prefered to hone those skills rather than struggle on programs that we were unlikely to use in the future.

In short, the best part of the exercises portion was that I had the opportunity to switch between Appleworks and Word. I do feel that Appleworks kicked my butt "Bird style," but like a pheonix, I will rise to the challenge one day!

I liked Kelly the most. She was patient and, I hope, understanding that it is difficult to teach old dogs new tricks. I liked the exersize on editing the best. I thought I knew word processing cause I use microsoft all the time, but I am woefully ignorant!!!!!!!!

I worked with Kristi. We worked through the JV exercises and were in the process of working on some varsity exercises. I found the symbols to be very helpful, especially how to make a shortcut to a symbol. (There are some uses for accents in Latin!) Also, I had never used the format painter before, so I am glad to know about it, since I think I can use this tool.

Hi,
I enjoyed learning the shortcuts to save and fix mistakes. The font was a bit small but I now know how to fix that.

What was learned in Assignment 2

In this assignment, my partner (Bert) and I learned more about how to insert symbols (in the Varsity assignments - the JV stuff we already had a grasp on). After inputting symbols, he and I worked extensively on tabbing and how to recreate the conditions that centered around exercise 4 (tabbing and entering). We opened up a blank document and experimented with these presets.

Very good information. Thanks -

Malcolm

Dear Larry's better half,
My partner and I wanted to try out the Appleworks program, but we quickly switched to Word with which we're both comfortable and relatively skilled. The JV exercises were very basic, but good review. I plan to work on the varsity exercises at home.
Thanks,
Lucy

Steve and Lynne,

I worked with Ed Rawson for assignment #2.
The excercises that I enjoyed the most were the JV excercises relating to Finding and Replacing words and spacing. It is definitley a skill that I will use when working on my report cards and letters home!

Thanks!

I learned some new things while working with Nancy on the MS Word assignment. We worked rather quickly through the JV assignments and explored some varisty assignments.

I found the find/replace tool for searching for the amount of spaces very helpful. In addition, I learned about the format painter (for the first time). I thought this was pretty cool to copy the formats of font, color, etc.

I liked learning about the uses of multiple clicks. For example, I learned that triple clicking highlights the entire paragraph and double clicking highlights the word selected. I am glad that I learned this.

I worked with Debbie, using MS Word on a Mac. We both thought that we were intermediate and would sail through the JV exercises. In reality, it took us the whole hour to complete the JV exercises and we both learned new things such us the horizontal scroll bar to view 2 parts of the text, highlighting different parts of the text and new shortcuts. I have learned most of Word by myself, so many of these new "tricks" I would never have learned unless someone else had shown me. Now I can save lots of time using these new items. Thank you :)

I am an advanced user of Word. I've developed complex end-user documentation with tables, graphics, spreadsheets, and more. I've also created complex document templates and worked with teams of writers and editors (tracking changes, adding comments, etc.). So I am very familiar with all of the skills discussed in this exercise. However, it is always good to review these skills...especially those that I haven't used in a while.

After quickly putting the JV material behind us, Malcolm and I plowed into the Varsity stuff. We made short work of the Insert Symbol exercises, and we fournd the first Tab exercise easy enough. However, we ended up spending time figuring out the tab settings and how to do them on the second Tab exercise. We opened up a blank Word document to see how each of the different Tab symbols worked and experimented with document creation using various settings. Now that I see how this works, I expect to be able to do things much more effeciently and quit banging away at the space bar and running back and forth across the page with the Tab key and the backspacer like some kind of bleedin' amateur knothead.
