I enjoyed investigating the web quest for the Kindergarten level.  This link provides valuable information that will help in the project approach teaching that we do.

The children will be able to look at different approaches to a particular subject.

The aquatic aquarium gave me different insights on what the children can expand  their knowledge and investigation.   This is a great too for differentiated learning.

Through Bernie Dodgeıs webpage I found WebQuest Search Results:
Grades 6-8 Social Studies

In search of a Hero @

http://coe.west.asu.edu/students/lcooper/wqprocess.htm

All aspects of the page: Introduction, Task, Process, Resources, Teacher Notes, Evaluation & Reflection, Conclusion appear to be well organized and user friendly.  This site also would be adaptable to my specific research project goals of setting up a quest for a biography research project.  The rsouces page is particularly useful.

I like this because I have a grandson that likes space and I thought he would like this and as I got into thought it was interesting too.

This told about the new 10th planet found.

We thought the site http://projects.edtech.sandi.net/chavez/batquest/batquest.html would be very appropriate for Kindergarten. Its format is similar to the project approach that we follow at Kinkaid. The children can discover valuable factual information after reading the book Stellaluna as a starting point.  Many different activities are integrated for differentiated learning and the children are active in the process, by being able to click on various sources.

Although we browsed several sites.

These are websites to possibly use in Kathyıs Statisticsı class and Kathrynıs geometry universal patterns class.

At first the Statistics webquest was difficult to maneuver, but together we figured it out. It could used during the teaching process or as a culmination activity.

I liked the Native American link which had design instructions and visuals.

This site, which is supported by the Saskatoon school district is an extensive list of links (some of which do not work) regarding science at various levels (k thru HS).  Weaknesses in the site are that it is so extensive that the list of sites goes on and on.  Also it appears that there are few webquest sites for environmental science 9for which I was searching)

http://www.berksiu.k12.pa.us/webquest/science.htm

It appears that once one has located the science webquest sites that they are repeated.  I noticed that this site had a frog webquest that was listed at another site.  I checked out the webquest involving the ANWR issue and especially like the links that were listed.
Also, I discovered a cool site that was a resource for the Zebra Mussel webquest http://www.trincoll.edu/zines/tj/tj03.13.97/articles/cover.html

At this site, http://can-do.com/uci/k12-lessons.html

The University of California at Irvine had a very good presentation of the summer work that their students have done in creating webquest idea (units)

Kerin and Elisabeth

The first website that was investigated can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/home/chas/WQ.html The website, A Pizza Family Reunion, is intended by the creator to be used for 7th grade math students.  The basic idea behind this webquest is to determine the amount of supplies needed to make pizza by scratch for a family reunion.  The user will need to find a recipe for the dough and sauce as well as 3 recipes to make different types of pizza.  Spreadsheets are used to organize the amount of materials needed to make the pizzas and determine how many of each type will be needed.

This looks like a really great website.  It is well laid out and offers quite a few links to websites that are needed to successfully complete the project.  My main concern is that the students need to have some familiarity with using spreadsheets before beginning the project in order to complete it in a timely manner.

The second website investigated can be found at http://www.manteno.k12.il.us/webquest/middle/Math/ShopTilDrop/webquest%20shopping.html The website, Shop Til You Drop, is one of many webquests for middle school math classes that can be found at the main website of http://schools.rps205.com/curriculum/middle_school_mathmain.htm The basic idea behind this webquest is to utilize different online shopping sites to ³purchase² items, calculate the subtotal, percentage of tax, shipping, handling, all while keeping the total between $450 and $500.

If you choose to use this website it will be important to keep an eye on how much time is spent surfing the online shopping sites as well as what items are being purchased.  Hopefully a discussion will have occurred before hand about ³appropriateness² being maintained while working on this project.

The third website investigated, Vacation of Your Dreams, http://www.manteno.k12.il.us/drussert/WebQuests/JackLally/Vaca98'.html unfortunately has been moved or no longer exists.  However, this idea is intriguing and may be explored either online or with paper and pencil.

The fourth website investigated can be found at http://www.davidson.k12.nc.us/webquests/money/money.htm The website, Ultimate Money Webquest, is intended by the creator to be used for upper elementary and middle school.  Hopefully this can be used for 6th and possibly even 7th grade.  The basic idea behind this website is to use the website http://www.kidsbank.com/ to learn the basics about coins, bills, interest, and checking accounts.

Kayıs favorite webquest:

Kay and I learned how to locate webquests on various topics, hightlight and paste into a document, then make them hyperlinks.  Bravo!

Angie and Gloria found a good webquest on Brazil

http://teacherweb.com/NY/DodgeElementary/Grade3Webquest/index.html

The webquest is from 2002 so the task and the procedure is relevant, but some of the materials and site are not.

Angie and Gloria found a webquest on Thailand

http://www.bsdvt.org/webquest/dwoessner/shadow.htm#Top

This webquest looks good too and some of the links look good especially the first one.

Elaine and Sandra

http://technoteacher.com/WebQuests/ADDICTION/index.htm

Since each of us is in a different field (Psychology and Music) we began working separately (but together!).  Elaine went to  a site about addiction, which led us to a site about Music and the Brain so, we decided to work together!

When we went to the ³tasks² on this site, we were immediately captivated by its many topics.

Sandra is teaching a new music history course and searched the music/art section to no avail.  However, the social studies section produced the following webquest:

http://www.teachtheteachers.org/projects/PWalker2/index.htm

Since the course will focus not only on the music of each period but on the cultural and social context of each era, the art and architecture of each period will be something we will study. The above  webquest directs students to several art galleries (the task is to create and design a gallery in a museum), there are great links to major museums.

For Elaineıs psychology class, sheıs interested in accessing psychologically sound webquests on current political and social issues. Dale Newton (Twinfield Union School)ıs website on Intolerance and Fear : Constructing New Tomorrows looks promising. There is an interesting article on media criticism as well as a  link in which students can interact, via email, with experts in the field of hate, bigotry hate crime, etc.

And I found some musical relevance for Sandra! ³We Shall Overcome² is included!

http://zonorus.marlboro.edu/~dnewton/webquest/webquest.htm

A goal I have is to expand my course into a more multidisciplinary course, drawing from art, literature, history, government, to name a few relevant areas. The Lord of the Flies webquest by Masterjohn is one resource I could use. Itıs not quite as well developed as the other websites Iıve looked at, but it has some good links and quotes.

Author cards:  http://www.west-bend.k12.wi.us/webquest/ms/author/Default.htm

We could modify this webquest to include the authors that our fifth graders study, or  they could be required to read a book of their choice for their first quarter independent reading.  We could create a list of books of the same genre from which the kids need to choose.

Author Quest: http://www.authorquest.ecsd.net/

We could use this webquest to find specific authors and complete the above tasks.  This site appears to be more user friendly.

Journey to Japan: http://www.cusd.chico.k12.ca.us/libraries/elementary/japan/

Christina usually teaches about Japan. This could be useful.

Advertising Propaganda: http://www.thematzats.com/propaganda/

This one could need modifying a little, but it could be a great unit on advertising techniques.

My Side of the Mountain: http://education.nmsu.edu/webquest/wq/mountain/mtn-wq.htm

We read this novel in fifth grade and could work cooperatively (between literature and English classes)  to enrich the curriculum.

We found a wonderful, interesting webquest on international cuisine at http://users.starpower.net/fanningd/index.htm.  It was colorful and had useful information except that some of the links were outdated.  We looked at http://www.geocities.com/salemwitches_ca/ and while the graphics were wonderful, the text did not wrap so that it could be viewed onscreen.

http://fayette.k12.in.us/~cbeard/jp/ was not visually appealingŠno dinosaur pictures so we didnıt want to play with it.

http://www.mtbaker.wednet.edu/mbjh/somera/fairytale/ uses too much color and some of the links donıt work

Larry and Harlan

We found a site on developing programming standards intended for seniors in a computer programming class: http://www.gecdsb.on.ca/d&g/cswebquest/

The site looks well organized and has a pretty worthwhile task! We found it on Google, rather than the Webquest site, since most of the ³Technology² options on his Tops hits page werenıt really about computers.

We also found a web site intended for students studying programming.  It is on the history of computers http://www.berksiu.k12.pa.us/webquest/mccaffrey/default.htm.  This webquest did not impress us as much.  We rate it as middlin.

We have found two good sites for webquests focused on technology.

I like the first site because it gives several tasks to do on architecture. It displays some very good use of graphics that the kids will like. One feature of this site is that one of the links is on how to make a successful oral presentation.

The second site is useful because it offers several learning activities related to building basic computer skills.  The skills development range from word processing to internet research/navigation.
