This is an actual assignment that I have used
for 7th and 8th graders at The Children's Storefront (Steve Bergen)

How to follow the rule of CAPIQ? (make sure commas and periods are inside the
quotes)
How to create the pargraphs? (use the RETURN/ENTER button and then push TAB just once if needed to bump the first line over)
How to add a header and footer? (under the VIEW menu, the feature called HEADER and FOOTER will allow you to put your name centered in the HEADER and put the page number -- looks like # -- in the FOOTER)
How to change all instances of two spaces to one? (using FIND or REPLACE under the EDIT menu will allow you to changes all occurrences of "two spaces" to be "one space")
How to add graphics and make sure they do not exceed one inch? (by going to GOOGLE them IMAGES you can easily find your picture and then "drag it" from the Web into your Microsoft Word document; then you click on the picture and choose under the FORMAT menu to format the picture using SIZE to make either the width or length be 1")
How to make text wrap around graphics? (again, choose to FORMAT the PICTURE and then choose LAYOUT to make a TIGHT fit) ... this same skill is need to FORMAT a TEXT BOX (below)
How to include a caption in a TEXT BOX in 6 point for your Web site? (make sure you COPY the URL of where you got the graphic; then in Microsoft Word, choose INSERT then TEXTBOX and now click the cursor and you can type, pasting in the URL of where you got the graphic) ... yes the TEXT BOX must be in 6 point font size
The file name needs to be in the standard format, e.g. if you do it on April 29th and your name is Hulk Hogan, then it will be April29HulkHoganPaper.doc ... or if you do it on May 2nd and your name is Jane Doe, then it will be May2JaneDoePaper.doc

Turning off checkboxes under AutoCorrect
Go to Tools Menu
Choose Autocorrect
Click on Autoformat as you type tab
Customizing toolbars
Go to View Menu
Choose Toolbars and scroll down to customize
Drag desired shortcut to toolbar
To delete the shortcut, the customize toolbar must be open, and then drag the icon off the toolbar.
Graphics: Changing from inline to free floating
Double-click on the inserted graphic
Click on the Layout Tab, and then choose Square
The graphic will now be free floating and will allow text wrap
Headers and Footers
Go to View Menu
Choose Headers and Footers
Insert Page Numbers from the Header and Footer menu
Page breaks
Place cursor in desired location
Go to Insert Menu
Choose Break, then Page Break
Working with Columns
Select the desired text
Go to Format Menu, choose Columns
Select the desired number of columns
Click on Line Between box if you desire
Format Painter to copy and paste desired format
Select the text with the desired formatting--style, color, font, tabs, etc.
On the Toolbar, you will see an icon of a paintbrush; double-click on it.
Then double-click on the words or triple-click on a line to copy the desired formatting
Click on the Format Painter again to return to normal mode.
Track changes for group editing
Go to View Menu, choose Toolbars, then Reviewing
Click on the Track Changes icon to activate
Then edit the text (edits will appear in red
