On Saturday 3/9/2002, I visited my friends at the Boston Home and shared stories about Chapin School, the NY Jets, New York City and plan B regarding Marathon 2003; we sang songs by and about Sandra T. Laurie and Annie, Richard, Colleen and others were all there as I explained why I was heading to The Chapin School in July. I used the metaphor of "Horton the Elephant" to reassure everyone that I give my word that I will make video-conferencing, e-mail and the 2003 marathon work from Chapin, leaning on students and colleagues there.

"I mean't what I said, I said what I meant ...
An elephant's faithful, one hundred per cent"

And of course we sang songs!

Lame Duck, it feels half bad
I had a great job, couldn't get much better
Remember what Thomas Jefferson said
Keep his words in your head
They will help you feel better, better, better

To the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"

Don't you fret, Steve the Bergen,
Chapin's where you belong.
You're not a lame duck, you couldn't be --
Nobles still needs you there --
You can trust me.

But the future's brighter at Chapin
Where you will lead the tech crew.
Come July you'll know here on East End
Is best for you!

Look at me, I'm Sandra T
Moving Chapin ahead with technology

Going to the Chapin School
And yes, I'm gonna stay married
Going to the Chapin School
And yes, I'm gonna stay married
Going to the Chapin School
With heart

Monday June 10th, 2002 was perhaps my best day of the last 6 crazy, stressful months when I found out that my friend and former Nobles colleague Matt Horvat (94-95; computer and math TF at Nobles) had been offered and had accepted a job at The Chapin School as math teacher for Fall 2002 ... he wrote me a note to say "he was in" but I was too dense to make sense of it and needed him to explain once and then twice on the phone ... oh lord ocd, I was so confused ... i was too obtuse and did not know if he was in trouble or he was in his house or what ;-)
